The first GIS Days at the faculty

GIS (Geographic and Information Systems) Days is a showcase of dozens and hundreds of maps showing different views of the cities and landscapes around us. The event is primarily intended for primary and secondary school pupils and university students, but also for the general public.

The GIS event was first organized in 1999 and is always held around 14 November, as this is International Geographic Information Systems Day.

Over the 20 years of its existence, Liberec GIS Days has built a reputation as an event with high educational value. Every year, GIS Days is attended by 700 pupils, students and teachers, so, in all, thousands of pupils and students have become familiar with the software and the possibilities of its use. The number of institutions taking part in the event is also unique, for instance the Liberec Regional Fire and Rescue Service, the Liberec City Council, the Liberec Regional Authority, the F. X. Šaldy School and the Liberec SOŠ (Secondary Technical School). They all use geographic information systems and geography to create spatial databases, analyze data or create maps.
