Establishment of the Department of Physical Education and Sport

The Department of Physical Education and Sport (KTV) was first established in Liberec as an independent department in 1953, at the same time as the University of Engineering was founded. Until 1990, it taught general physical education and sports at the faculties of engineering and textile. With the establishment of the Faculty of Education at the University of Engineering and Textiles in 1990, it was transformed into a department.

The department is a member of the International Council for Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), which associates professional institutions engaged in science and research in the field of physical education and sport. In 2020, the KTV became involved in a project of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic called UNIS, which supports student-athletes at Czech universities. The TUL offers the following opportunities for student-athletes: alternate ways to meet study obligations, regular and extraordinary sports scholarships, representation in academic competitions at all levels and use of the well-equipped university sports facilities.

Recently, KTV teachers have published several monographs on anthropomotorics, the basics of kinanthropology, athletics, skiing, sports games and the physiology of physical exercise and have published a number of professional contributions in Czech and foreign kinanthropological, anthropological and medical journals. KTV members regularly take part in a number of international congresses and conferences.
